In pursuit of excellence brings forward the practices which will enable individuals and especially students who have the drive to excel in whichever domain they are in to learn and put that to application these frameworks. This passion is what Geoff covin puts it in his book “Talent is Overrated” where he brings forth the concept of deliberate practice and its importance in achieving excellence.

The journey to excel starts with a vision. The more an individual is aligned to the vision the more he/ she is capable of achieving it. So, this is the first step towards excellence where we develop a compelling vision. Compelling vision makes you to dream with your eyes wide open. The second aspect to continuously excel in the specific fields, it is important to aim at personal growth and gain mastery in the specific fields by reflecting and deliberately practicing on the same. The third aspect which needs to be put in the practice is systems thinking, which calls for bringing about a proactive approach towards looking at things around them. The fourth discipline which has to be a part of our day-to-day transaction is team learning. The idea is to collaborate and grow. The fifth aspect which is highly essential in our discussion is to develop mental models by learning various frameworks and understanding the core concepts of every subject in-depth which in turn helps in solving problems as and when we come across challenges in the organizations.

In our talk we would like to delve on all these five disciplines and its application on modern context and how students can aim to benefit from it. Our drive to learn is strong – but our work environments can quickly extinguish it. So let us learn new methods of applying this framework in our day-to-day transactions.
